Who drives the terrible winds and downpours of a typhoon from the sea? Why does a terrible tsunami wave suddenly appear, on a quiet, clear day, far out to sea and rush ashore, destroying everything in its path? This is all done by the god of the sea and wind, the grandson of the heavenly lord Yuqiang.
And who calms the sea, turning it into something like a mirror? Who inflates the reed sails of junks and draws them to green, mysterious islands inhabited by amazing creatures? Who drives the fish into the nets of the successful fishermen? Yuqiang does this too. What was the appearance of the wind god? It was a terrible deity with the face of a man and the body of a bird. Instead of earrings, two blue snakes hung from his ears. And two more snakes replaced the soles of slippers. As soon as Yuqiang flapped his huge wings, a destructive typhoon arose. The most terrible wind was from the northwest. He killed all living things, and in the “best” case, he struck unfortunate people with ulcers. They died slowly.
When Yuqiang appeared in the form of the sea, he was a little kinder, and his appearance was completely different. The god of the sea had the body of a fish, arms and legs like a man, and moved on two dragons. There was a time when all Yuqiang did was swim in the guise of a kun, a huge whale fish in the North Sea. He was so big that he himself did not know how many thousands of miles his back stretched. Then he was kind and long, very long waves emanated from his body. But one day Kun-Yuqiang became angry that he was revered only in the north, while in the south he was treated without any respect or fear. In anger, he turned into a pen bird - an evil phoenix. His black wings darkened the sky like clouds stretching to the horizon. When his black feathers hung, tornadoes rushed across the ground. Summer warmth gave way to winter cold. Sea currents changed direction. That's how the whale fish suddenly turned into a phoenix bird, and the god of the sea became the god of the wind. For a whole six months he flew from the North Sea to the South Sea, fanning a roaring and groaning wind that pierced to the bones. At the South Sea he calmed down, rested and returned home. Yuqiang liked this trip so much that he began to spend six months in the North Sea, in peace and quiet, and then for six months he flew towards the South Sea and raged there.
People have studied the disposition of the restless god. At the first flaps of Yuqiang's black wings, they hid their junks in the harbors and patiently waited for the god of wind and sea to change his anger to mercy.
