There lived a doctor. Good doctor. He healed people so skillfully that one day death came to him.
“You are a master of your craft, mortal.” But by saving absolutely everyone, you violate the law of balance. Let's agree that if you come to a patient and see the dying lamp of this person's life on the table, you will not treat him. Because he must die. If the lamp burns brightly, treat it. As a sign of our agreement, I will leave you with your lamp of life. Take care of her, let her be with you all the time.
And without waiting for an answer, death disappeared, leaving the doctor with a lamp. He continued treatment. One day he was called to see a seriously ill baby. When he entered he saw a lamp. The light is about to go out. He felt sorry for the young mother. And he secretly poured some oil from his lamp into the baby's lamp. The lamp filled and began to shine. After some time, he was called to see a sick woman. Entering the poor hut, he saw many children at their mother’s bedside. Her lamp barely glowed. The doctor, without hesitation, poured oil into her from his own. After a while he had to go to a rich but old and sick man. Seeing the tears of relatives... History repeated itself.
A year later the doctor fell ill. And he saw that his lamp was barely glowing. The moment came when death appeared on the threshold.
“You cleverly deceived me.” But your lamp has run out of oil. It's time for you.
They were transported to the world of the dead. He found himself in a huge hall, where the same lamps as his were burning and barely smoldering.
-You did not spare your life for others. For this you are entitled to a reward. You can pour oil for yourself from any lamp, and you will live to old age in glory and prosperity.
The doctor shook his head.
- No, I refuse.
“Then I no longer have power over you.” You are free.
