Moses, wandering through the desert, heard a shepherd praying to God.
“Oh, Lord,” said the shepherd, “how could I meet You and become Your slave!” With what joy I would put on Your shoes, wash Your feet and kiss them, comb Your hair, wash Your clothes, clean Your home and bring You milk from my flock!
Moses heard these words, became angry with the shepherd and said:
- You are a blasphemer. God has no body. He needs no clothes, no housing, no servants. You speak badly.
And the shepherd became sad. He could not imagine God without a body and without bodily needs, and he could not pray and serve God, and he fell into despair.
Then God said to Moses:
- Why did you drive My faithful servant away from Me? Every person has his own thoughts and his own speeches. What is bad for one is good for another. What is poison for you is sweet honey for someone else. Words don't mean anything. I see the heart of the one who turns to Me.
