Woman's slander

Woman's slander

One pious man, every time he went to the field and returned from there, prayed to God. One day his wife said to him: “Hubby, why don’t you ask God in your prayer to deliver you from your wife’s slander?” “This was still lacking!” What is a woman that I should pray out of fear of her?

Hearing this, the wife decided to teach her husband a lesson and play a joke on him: she bought several fish, tied them in a knot and carried them along with lunch to the field. While her husband, having taken breakfast, went to the spring to eat, she secretly buried the fish one by one in the ground. Having done this, she collected the dishes from lunch and returned home.

The husband, having started plowing, suddenly saw that a fish was coming out of the dug up ground. He collected the fish, brought them home in the evening and told his wife how he dug them out of the ground. At the same time, he expressed his delight at the fact that God could create fish in the earth. The husband ordered his wife to cook them so that they could have lunch in the field the next day. The wife cooked the fish, ate them herself, and, taking some of the stew with her, took it to her husband in the field. “Where are the fish?” - asked the husband. - What kind of fish are you talking about? - Yes, about those that I got out of the ground. - You’re really crazy! You didn’t bring any such fish home, I didn’t even see them.

The husband got angry at these words, took a club and was about to attack his wife, but she raised a cry and called for help from the peasants working in the neighboring fields. “Let me go,” said the husband, “I’ll teach this rubbish a lesson!” She ate my fish and calls me crazy.

The peasants who came to the cry asked the wife what kind of fish they were talking about. “Yes, I’m talking about the very fish that I dug out of the ground in the field,” said the husband. “Poor, poor woman, you’re right, he’s lost his mind!” - those gathered decided and, considering the peasant to be crazy, tied his hands, took him home and there tied him to a pole.

When the people dispersed and the wife remained with her husband face to face, she said to him: “Well, are you still not afraid of the woman’s slander?” Know that this is the least that could happen to you. “I pray to you, wife, in the name of God,” the husband answered, “untie the rope and deliver me from this misfortune!” I make a vow in daily prayer to first of all pray for deliverance from the woman’s slander.
