One day, a man was crawling through the desert, dying of hunger and thirst, when suddenly he saw a small tree in front of him.
“Oh, if only this tree had lush foliage and sheltered me from the scorching sun,” he thought.
And, lo and behold, he found himself under a crown of wide green leaves in the cool shade.
Having rested a little, he thought:
- Oh, if only juicy fruits grew here on this tree.
And, lo and behold, fruits appeared on the tree. He picked a fragrant ripe fruit, took a bite and felt the divine taste. He needed several fruits to get enough.
Having had his fill, he began to daydream:
“Oh, if only a spring would flow here between the roots of this wonderful tree!”
And, lo and behold, a pure spring immediately began to flow from under the roots and the traveler was able to drink plenty of life-giving water.
When he had satisfied both his hunger and his thirst, he thought:
- No, it can’t be that everything is so good, oh, what if it’s the work of demons?
And then the demons came...
