Wise Rabbit

In ancient times, there lived a brother and sister. When their parents died, they began to divide the inheritance. My parents had a very beautiful bull and cow. The brother took a handsome bull, his sister a beautiful cow, and they got along well.

After some time, the cow calved, and my brother really liked this calf. At night, he took the calf away and slipped it under his bull: it seemed that the bull had calved.

And in the morning a quarrel began. Sister shouts:

- This is my calf!

And brother:

- No, mine!

Finally they decided to go to the judge. The brother called an eagle to protect him, and his sister called a rabbit.

At the appointed time, the court assembled, only the sister’s defender, the rabbit, was late for something - everyone had to wait for him.

- You, rabbit, do not take care of our time, and yet you undertake to be a protector! - the judge reproached him.

“Why, your honor,” the rabbit began to justify himself. “I value time.” But I had to take care of one important matter.

- Was it really more important than that? — the judge was amazed.

- Yes, sir. The earth caught fire, and I felt sorry for its inhabitants, so I ran to the ocean, carrying water with a basket to put out the fire. That's why I was late.

The judge laughed:

“If the earth had caught fire, we would probably know here too, huh?” And then - what is it like to carry water in a basket? It seems to me that you, rabbit, have gone completely crazy, so you’re talking some kind of nonsense!

Then the rabbit said:

- If this is nonsense, then today’s matter is even more so: where have you seen a bull calving?

- And you are a wise rabbit! — the judge praised him and immediately decided the case in favor of his sister.
