It was a long time ago. One person had a roe deer and a wapiti. Previously they were pets. Quiet and peaceful, they grazed with the sheep and cows around the camp, in the valleys and at the foot of the mountains.
A man milked cows and had a lot of milk. And the roe deer loved milk very much. She came to the chum, smelled it and immediately went to the torho - a wooden dish into which fresh milk was poured. The owner could not drive the roe deer away. Then he got angry, took a scoop from the torho and hit the roe deer’s tail with it. The back of it turned white.
The roe deer went to complain to the wapiti.
“Look,” she says, “what’s behind me?” The red deer saw a white spot. Advises her:
– Don’t go to the person anymore, don’t bother him. The wapiti and the roe deer went for a walk through the forest together, nibbled grass, then returned to the tent. The red deer smelled a pleasant smell from afar: the owner was kneading dough to bake bread. The red deer could not stand it, he stretched himself - he really loved flour. The man took a whorl and hit the wapiti with it from behind. It had a wide yellow spot around its tail. The animals were offended.
“The owner doesn’t like us,” they said. - Now we will never approach a person. Let's leave and live in the taiga.
So they became wild animals again.
