Well, if you believe the rumors, the first Schildburger was from Ancient Greece. To tell the truth, we only know anything about the Schildburgers from rumors. They did not preserve any chronicles or family books; everything was lost during a great fire, when the city of Shilda burned to the ground, which we will report on in due time and in its place in full detail. By the way, the heroic spirit and noble habits so characteristic of the inhabitants of Shilda also testify to their ancient Greek origin. But which of the great sages of the ancient world was the forefather of the Schildburgers, this, regrettably, can no longer be established. However, it is permissible to assert, and with complete certainty, that that man was endowed with an extremely sharp and inquisitive mind and enjoyed honor and respect among his fellow countrymen.

Here it is appropriate to note that the ancient Greeks were often ungrateful and paid with evil for the good that the wise sons of the fatherland showed them, and sometimes dealt with them very harshly: some were executed, some were expelled. This is what they did, for example, with Solon and Xenophon. And so one of the wisest sages hastily left his homeland with his wife and children and settled in foreign lands. After the death of their father, his children did not want to return to Greece, remembering the rule that is fair to this day: “Where our parents lived, they ordered us to live there.” They built houses for themselves, began to graze cattle, plow the land, and when the time came, their children were born, and so, year after year, a whole town, called Shilda, grew up in the place where one family had once settled.
