One day the young and handsome Prince Khikuli got ready to go hunting. But what awaited him in the forest was not just failure, but disaster. Terrible monsters lured the young man into the thicket, twisted his arms and legs and put him in a tight cage.
Already a ferocious jaguar, and in fact an evil sorcerer, was about to subject him to a terrible temptation. But all the forest birds rushed to save Khikuli. With their whistling and singing, they called the necessary animals: some of them gnawed through the bonds on the prince’s arms and legs, while others broke the bars of his cage. So Khikuli was freed and started to run. But the monsters also rushed after him. Then the gods made our fugitive a fleet-footed deer. The monsters immediately turned into a pack of fierce hounds.
They finally caught up with the deer and were about to tear it apart when it suddenly became a tiny cactus hiding in the ground.
So the gods laughed at the monsters, and the prince, who was always kind to people, never became human again. It will forever remain the peyote cactus that people need so much.
