What to do with a butterfly

What to do with a butterfly

One day, the shepherd's son came running to the Wise Pig, crying.

“I accidentally killed a butterfly,” the child began sobbing, “and my mother said that taking someone else’s life is a great sin.”

“That’s true,” the Pig answered importantly, “but sin is counted only when you kill unnecessarily and get pleasure from it.” Thousands of thousands of butterflies on our earth die every day from bad weather and in the beaks of voracious birds, but few people think of regretting them, for this is the natural course of things.

“But my mother’s voice seems to live in me and constantly reproaches me for my action,” the boy objected.

“Well, explain everything to him and tell him that he is wrong,” advised the Wise Pig.

The puzzled boy whispered something under his breath, his face lit up with a smile, and he immediately ran off somewhere about his business, even forgetting in his joy to thank the Wise Pig for the advice.

“Truly, people are masters of creating difficulties for themselves, but how much joy liberation from them brings them,” the Pig grumbled and, after thinking, added, “but it’s still a pity for the butterfly, because she was also someone’s friend...”
