Sufi parable from Ghazali They heard from Aban ibn Usman that one person wanted to harm Ubaidallah ibn Abbas and, appearing before the Quraish, said to them:
- Ubaidallah informs you that today you are invited to dinner with him.
They came to him, filling the whole house. He asked: “What is this?” They told him. Then he ordered to buy fruit, hired people, and while they baked and cooked, he served fruit to the guests. They ate them when the tables were already set, and ate their fill.
Ubaidallah asked his assistants:
- And we have all this every day?
“Yes,” they answered.
“Then let these people come to us for lunch every day,” he said.
