Not belonging to anything is one of life's greatest experiences. To be a complete outsider, to never feel a part of anywhere, is a great experience of transcendence.
An American tourist came to see a Sufi Master. He had heard about him for a long time and fell deeply in love with his words. And so he finally got ready and came to him. When he entered the room, he was surprised: the room was completely empty! There was only the Master sitting there, and there was no furniture. The American could not imagine a living space without any furniture. He asked:
-Where is your furniture, sir?
The old Sufi laughed and said:
-Where is yours?
- But I'm a tourist. I can't bring my furniture with me!
- Here I am, a tourist who came for a few days. Then I will be gone, just like you will be gone.
This world is only a pilgrimage, a pilgrimage of great importance, but not a place to belong to, not a place to become a part of.
