Diriri was a widow and lived with her four young daughters. One day Bibby arrived and set up a camp not far from her. Diriri was so afraid of him that she could not sleep. At night she watched his camp and, hearing any sound, shouted loudly: “Diriri, uya, uya, Diriri!” At times she screamed almost all night.
In the mornings, Bibby came to her camp and asked what was the matter, why she was screaming so much. She replied that it seemed to her that someone was walking around, and she was afraid - after all, she lives alone with four small daughters.
He convinced her that she should not be afraid. But every night she continued to shout: “Uya, ouya, Diriri, Diriri!”
Finally Bibby said:
“If you are so afraid, marry me and live in my camp, I will take care of you.”
But Diriri refused to get married, and every night her plaintive cry was heard: “Uya, uya, Diriri, Diriri.” Again and again Bibby persuaded her, but again she refused.
The more she resisted, the more he wanted to marry her, and he kept thinking about how to convince her to change her mind.
Finally he figured out how to get her to agree. He built a beautiful multi-colored arch, calling it Yulu-virri, and placed it across the sky from one side of the earth to the other. When the rainbow was firmly established in the sky and sparkled in all its glory with different colors, like a road from the earth to the stars, Bibby retired to his camp and began to wait.
When Diriri looked up at the sky and saw a beautiful rainbow, she thought something terrible was about to happen. She was terribly scared and screamed loudly: “Uya, ooya!”
In fear, she gathered her children and hurried for protection to Bibbi's camp.
Bibby proudly said that he made the rainbow himself to prove how strong he was and how safe she would feel if she married him. And if she again does not agree, she will see what terrible phenomena he will call to earth. It will no longer be a beautiful rainbow in the sky, but something terrible that will burst out of the earth and destroy it.
Diriri feared his power and at the same time admired his art. Playing on her feelings, Bibby achieved his goal, and Diriri married him. When they died a long time later, Diriri turned into a small wagtail that can be heard in the silence of summer nights. She plaintively calls: “Diriri, uya, uya, Diriri.” Bibby turned into a crested nuthatch, constantly running up the trees, as if he wanted to build other roads to heaven besides the famous rainbow, Yulu-virri, thanks to which he got his wife.
