Understanding Prophecy

There was a village high in the mountains, and a sage lived in it. He was very old and decrepit. All the villagers listened to his every word, considered him a saint or a prophet, and there was never a time when his prophecy did not come true. If he predicted war, war would begin; if he promised a cold winter, then terrible frosts would crack.

One day this prophet, with great sadness, almost crying, turned to the villagers and said: “Tomorrow the sun will not rise.”

And after that he retired to his hut.

Panic began in the village. Some decided to commit suicide, others grabbed their belongings and rushed to run wherever they could in the vain hope of avoiding the end of the world. And the calmest and strongest in spirit decided to pray.

Before dawn, everyone who remained in the village gathered in the square to meet the cataclysm together. But the sun has risen!

Then the crowd shouted “Deceiver!” rushed to the hut where the prophet lived. But everything was quiet there. The Prophet died that night.
