There was a fine man named Uisden Mor, who lived near Lyden Lyn. At one time he wandered around northern Rossshire. Since this man was a warrior and carried weapons with him wherever he went, he loved most of all to wander through the most dangerous places that other people were afraid of. He had a passion for fighting monsters of all kinds.

There is a heather-covered mountain in Gairloch, which is called Tom Buide, and along the side of which runs a small stream. Almost everyone who walked this road sooner or later saw a huge hairy and bearded goat, which greatly harassed passers-by, killing some, and driving others to heartbreak with fear. The Yellow Hornless Goat that lived on Tom Buid in Gairloch was very famous.

Uisden More heard about the monster and decided to go and fight it, regardless of the danger and without hesitation.

He went there quite early and, coming to the foot of the mountain, went into the house of a weaver who at that time lived there on the Thorasdale hills - they called him the Weaver with the Yellow Legs. When Wisden entered, the weaver was sitting at his loom. Wisden and the weaver struck up a conversation.

“Aren’t you heading to Tom Buida?” - asked the weaver.

“That’s right,” answered Wisden.

“Aren’t you afraid of meeting the Yellow Goat?”

“No, I’m not afraid,” said Wisden.

-What weapon will you test against her first?

“I will test what a sword can do to her.”

“What if your sword doesn’t come out of its sheath?” - asked the weaver.

“If it doesn’t work, I’ll point the gun at her and test it,” answered Uisden.

“What,” asked the weaver, “if your gun doesn’t give a spark?”

“If he doesn’t,” answered Wisden, “I’ll see what Catriona, my grandmother’s sister, can do with the Goat.”

And on every weapon that Uysden mentioned, the weaver cast an enchantment; Only he could not put a spell on the knife, because Uisden called the knife Catriona, his grandmother's sister.

Having said this, Uisden hurried towards Tom Buide with a cheerful, cheerful step, and arrived at the stream as it was getting dark. Arriving at the stream, he heard something similar to the bleating of a goat; This surprised him greatly. However, he hurried to the ford to meet the monster.

- Are you calling your little goat, hairy one? asked Wisden.

“If so, I’ve already found it,” answered the goat.

“Not yet, it can’t be that she’s already found it,” said Wisden.

Saying this, they approached each other. Uisden jerked his sword, but it did not want to come out of its sheath. But the gun didn’t want to spark! Then the goat grabbed him and made him kneel, saying:

“Wisden Mor, you will not leave here alive.”

“You vile, stupid brute of the streams,” answered Uisden, “you don’t know much about this!”

“Where is Katriona, your grandmother’s sister, huh, Nimble Hand?” - said the goat, thinking that she had defeated him.

- Good luck and thank you! You have a better memory! - Uisden replied, taking out his knife and striking the creature in the stomach with a steel blade. Instantly the goat disappeared.

Wisden, looking around him, returned to the weaver's dwelling. He entered decisively and adamantly and asked where the owner of the house was. He was told that he was lying sick in bed.

- I have to see him! - said Uisden and, sweeping away all obstacles, reached the weaver’s bed.

But he was not in bed, and when Wisden struck the fire, he found him lying under the loom and bleeding. He ordered the weaver to immediately show him his wounds. He showed, and when Wisden saw the wound the knife had made in his belly, he became convinced that the weaver and the goat were the same creature.

“Since it was you who caused so much harm on Tom Buida, you will not take another step,” said Uisden. And, instead of applying any ointment to his wound, he dealt the weaver a fatal blow, killing him under his own loom, and then went his way.

And since then, not a single person has died from a goat or a monster on Tom Buida.
