Hesperus is the night star, Lucifer is the morning star, which rises at dawn. These two stars gathered the rest of the stars around them and all together came to the Creator with these words:
- Lord, You are a good Creator, You gave us a beautiful light and placed us well; We are disadvantaged only by the fact that our brilliance and beauty are not always visible. Therefore, we reverently ask You, You must darken the sun, deprive it of light, so that we can be seen during the day.
The Creator answered them:
- This cannot be done, because the sun is the artist of the day, the distributor of time, the beginning of all living things, and without it nothing can grow, and therefore I do not heed your requests.
The stars began to ask the Creator again, saying to Him:
- O Creator of all creatures, listen to us at least a little! Dry and drive away the clouds in the sky that interfere with our light, for because of the clouds we are often completely invisible.
The Creator says to this:
- Shut up and don’t ask for what you shouldn’t, for Cato also writes: “Ask only what you should, or what seems due.” For the clouds water the earth with their moisture, and if there is no rain, then the earth does not help the growth of herbs and fruits.”
And with these words the Creator drove away the stars, adding:
- Those who ask for things that are not allowed and that are not praiseworthy, let them be expelled.
If someone wants to be heard, he must ask for what is due and worthy, which is in accordance with the mind and will of the Lord. When a person asks the Lord for something that He approves and allows, God will fulfill his request.
On the other hand, many of those who ask are not heard, because God has prepared for them something better than what they ask for. Often the Lord does not hear many according to His will, in order to listen to them for salvation.
