Two frosts were walking across the field, two siblings - the Blue-nose frost and the Red-nose frost.
They walk and walk in the cold, praising each other. And the night is bright, bright. There is plenty of room in the freezing cold.
And it’s quiet, so quiet, as if there was no living soul left in the world. The frosts moved from the field to the forest. They run, click, jump from tree to tree, scare bunnies. We dropped into the village from the forest and let's shoot at the roofs!
“Hey,” says Frost Blue-nose, “everyone is hiding, they’re afraid to get out into the yard.”
“As soon as someone gets out, we’ll give him fear,” answers the Red-nose frost.
It was getting light. Thick smoke poured out of the chimneys. The wells creaked. Men came out of the huts. Some went to thresh, some are going to the forest to get firewood.
“Wait a minute, brother,” said the Red-nose frost. “Let’s run with you to the road into the field.”
And they ran again into the field. They stand side by side, waiting for travelers.
The sleigh creaked on the road. A bell rang somewhere under the arc.
A villager sits in a sleigh, pushing a horse. And behind the sleigh a wild cart floats, the bell rings.
“Well, wait a minute,” says Frost Blue-nose. “You run after the man, and I’ll run after the gentleman.”
And they ran to freeze the travelers.
Frost Blue-nose ran for a long time before he caught up with the gentleman. Finally I caught up and crawled under the fur coat. The heat is expelled from there. The gentleman shudders, his feet are chilly, a chill runs through his body, the gentleman’s nose turns blue. And Frost Blue-nose just chuckles. Almost froze the gentleman to death.
And the frost Red-nose caught up with the villager and let’s freeze him.
“Hey, the frost is not joking,” says the villager. He gets off the sleigh, stomps his feet, slaps his hands on his shoulders. He ran like that for half a mile, and he started to feel hot. He got into his sleigh and drove off, and there was little grief.
- Well, just wait, brother: I’ll catch you when you’re chopping wood.
A man drove into the forest. And the Red-nose frost has overtaken him and is waiting in the forest. The villager unharnessed the horse, took the ax, and as he began to chop, he felt hot. I threw off the casing. And the frost was happy: he climbed into the casing and started weaving white crosses there.
Made the casing white as snow.
A man has chopped wood and goes to his sheepskin coat, but he is completely frozen.
- Hey, brother, are you here?
He took the whip and began to thresh - Frost Red-nose jumped out, barely alive, and straight into the forest.
Frost Red-nose is angry with the villager, but he can’t do anything with him.
