One day a turtle climbed into a hollow and started playing the pipe. Kaipora heard and said to himself: “It’s probably the turtle playing. I wish I could catch her!”
He crept up to the hollow, and the turtle played:
Li, ri, li, ri...
Le, re, le, re.
Here Kaipora calls her:
- Turtle, oh turtle!
- What do you want? - the turtle answers.
- Come out, turtle, let's measure our strength!
“Well, I’m not against it,” says the turtle. Kaipora went into the thickets, cut a vine there, dragged it to the river bank, and said to the turtle:
- Well, let's start, you jump into the river, and I will stay on the bank.
The turtle jumped into the river, tied a vine to the dolphin’s tail, and slowly climbed out onto the shore and hid under a bush.
Kaipora began to pull the vine. But the dolphin strained and dragged Kaipora into the water. Then Kaipora strained and almost pulled the dolphin out of the water. And the dolphin strained further and again completely pulled Kaipora into the river.
And the turtle, sitting under a bush, saw everything and chuckled.
Finally Kaipora got tired and said:
- Enough, turtle!
The turtle jumped into the water, untied the vine from the dolphin's tail and crawled importantly to the shore. Kaipora asks her:
-Are you very tired, turtle?
“What are you talking about,” the turtle answers, “I didn’t even sweat.” Kaipora was surprised and said:
“Now I know for sure that you are stronger than me, turtle.” I'm leaving.
