True Journey

At first, Lieh Tzu loved to travel. Hu Tzu asked him when they met:

— What do you like about traveling?

“The pleasure of traveling is that you always see something new in front of you,” answered Le Tzu. “Other people travel to admire the views, but I travel to contemplate the transformation of things.” Trips! Trips! We still need to look for someone who can explain what it is!

“But don’t you travel like others?” Is there any difference here? Everything we see in front of us is constantly changing. You enjoy contemplating the changes around you and do not notice that you yourself are changing. You are carried away by wanderings in the outer world and do not know what contemplation of the inner is. In external wanderings we look for what we lack outside, and through internal contemplation we comprehend the abundance within ourselves. The first is an imperfect way of traveling, and the second is a perfect way.

Since then, Le Tzu never left the yard anywhere, deciding that he had no idea what a real journey was. Hu Tzu told him:

- Well, then travel in the perfect way! In a perfect journey we do not know where we are going; in perfect contemplation we do not know what we are looking at. This way we can visit everything that is in the world and see everything that happens in the world. This is what I call true journey and true contemplation. Therefore I say to you: “Travele in the perfect way!”
