Triumph of justice

One night, in the midst of a feast, a certain man came to the palace and prostrated himself before the ruler. All the feasting people looked at him and saw that he was missing one eye, and blood was oozing from the gaping eye socket.

- What trouble happened to you? - asked the ruler.

“Oh, my lord,” answered the stranger, “I make my living as a thief.” Today was a moonless night, and I decided to rob a money changer's shop. I climbed inside through the window, but something difficult managed to get me into the weaving mill, I ran into the weaving mill in the dark and pierced my eye. So, my lord, I ask you to judge the weaver fairly.

They sent for the weaver, and when he appeared, they ordered his eye to be gouged out.

“Oh my lord,” the weaver prayed, “your judgment is fair.” I deserve this fate. But here’s the problem: to see both edges of the fabric, I need both eyes. I have a neighbor, a shoemaker, and in his craft he can get by with just one eye.

Then the ruler ordered the shoemaker to be brought. And he appeared. And they tore out the shoemaker's eye.

Thus justice prevailed.
