Tricky Petre and Nasredin-Khoja

Enlight

From an early age, Petre said goodbye to his native Gradeshnitsa in Markov and went to work as farm laborers for Nasreddin Khoja. All the people considered Khoja to be very smart - after all, it was not for nothing that he taught the children at his school. However, little Petre was smarter than himself. And this angered the Khoja.

Once during a lesson the Hodja said to his students:

- Come on, come on, guys! Go home, grab an egg and quickly come here!

The guys ran and brought each egg. Khoja tells them:

- And now you’ll be blown away. Shout louder: “Where, where! Where, where!” And then you get up from your seat - and under each of you I will find an egg. It's clear?

And so they did. Only poor Petre found nothing at home. Well, so that the Hodja doesn’t ask: “Why didn’t you lay my egg?” - when everyone started cackling, he jumped up, spread his arms, flapped his wings and shouted at the top of his voice: “Crow!”

And the Khoja told him:

- Where is the egg?

The sly man smiled and answered the hodja:

- For mercy's sake, am I a chicken? I'm a rooster! Can chickens live without a loud-mouthed husband?

So Petre, even as a small child, turned out to be more cunning than Nasreddin Khoja.

It was so - and now it remains so.
