When Gautama Buddha became enlightened, it was a full moon night. All his worries and anxieties disappeared, as if they had never existed before, as if he had been sleeping and was now awakened. All the questions that had bothered him before disappeared by themselves, he felt the fullness of Being and Unity.
The first question that arose in his mind was: “How can I express this? I have to explain this to people, show them the Reality. But how to do this? This question tormented all those who knew the Truth.
People from all over the Earth reached out to Buddha. For all living things are drawn to the Light.
The first thought he uttered was:
- Every thought expressed is a lie.
Having said this, he fell silent. This continued for seven days. When they asked him questions, he just raised his hand and pointed his index finger upwards meaningfully.
The legend says: “The gods in heaven became worried. Finally, an enlightened person appeared on Earth. This is such a rare phenomenon! For the opportunity has arisen to unite the world of people with the Higher World, and now, man, who could be a bridge between Heaven and earth, is silent.”
They waited for seven days and decided that Gautama Buddha was not going to speak. Therefore, the gods came down to him with their king Indra. Touching his feet, they asked him not to remain silent.
Gautama Buddha told them:
“I’ve been thinking about all the pros and cons for seven days now and still don’t see the point in talking.” First, there are no words with which to convey the content of my experience. Secondly, whatever I say will be misunderstood. Thirdly, out of a hundred people, ninety-nine of them will not benefit from this. And those who are able to understand can discover the Truth themselves. So why deprive him of this opportunity? Perhaps the search for Truth will take him a little longer. So what? Ahead is eternity!
The gods consulted and told him:
“The world is probably collapsing.” The world will probably perish if the heart of the Perfect One is inclined to remain at peace. Let the Great Buddha preach the teaching. There are beings who are pure from earthly corruption, but if the preaching of the doctrine does not touch their ears, they will perish; in them the Great One will find his followers. They need one push, one true word. You could help them take the only true step into the Unknown.
A moment of silence... Buddha closed his eyes and said:
- For the sake of those few I will speak! I didn't think about them. I am not able to express the whole Truth, but I can point them to the Treasured Star with my finger!
