Sufis are known as seekers of truth, and truth is knowledge of objective reality.
One ignorant and greedy tyrant one day wanted to get his hands on this truth. His name was Rudarigh Rodrigo, he was the great lord of Murcia in Spain. He decided that the truth was something that could be extracted by force from Omar al-Alawi of Taragona.
Omar was captured and brought to the palace. Rudarigh said:
“I order you to immediately state all the truth that you know in words that I understand, otherwise you will have to say goodbye to your life.”
Omar replied:
“Do you observe the universal custom at your noble court, according to which an arrested person should be released if he tells the truth when answering the questions asked, and if this truth does not testify against him?”
“Yes, I do,” said the nobleman.
“I ask everyone present to bear witness to the words of our master,” said Omar. - And now I will tell the truth, and not just one, but three!
“We must see for ourselves that your words truly represent the truth as such.” Proof must accompany your words.
“For a gentleman like you,” continued Omar, “to whom we are going to reveal not one, but three truths, we will try to give truths that will be self-evident.”
Rudarigh was filled with self-satisfaction at this compliment.
“The first truth,” said the Sufi, “is that I am the one called Omar, a Sufi from Taragona.” The second is that you agreed to let me go if I tell the truth. The third is that you want to know the truth that corresponds to your understanding.
The impact of these words was such that the tyrant was forced to release the Sufi.
