One of the Sufi sages appointed a person to convey his instructions to his disciples.
After a short time, the disciples began to look at this man not as a messenger, but as a sage and a saint. And he began to imagine that everything he said was extremely significant.
Later, some students doubted: “Is he really fooling us?” Others considered them traitors. Clashes and altercations began.
Having learned about this, the sage said: “Fools! The vanity of this narrow-minded person was nourished by your desire to adore someone. If you had listened to my advice and not looked for idols for yourself, this would not have happened. And if it happened, then you should observe how unable you are to distinguish false from right and how cowardly you are if you call false true. This would be a lesson for you."
The disciples asked, “What should happen to him?”
The sage replied: “That is not your concern. Thinking about empty things delays your development. Think about the eternal if you want to move forward.
