A thief broke into a rich house. The owner, entering the house and seeing the thief, wanted to beat him with a stick and grab him. But the thief got ahead of him. He began to beat the owner and said:

- Why, when you saw me at work, didn’t you say: “God help you!”?

The owner began to scream, called people for help and brought the thief to court. When the judge asked:

- In what good deeds did you require good wishes?

The thief replied:

- If it was not a good deed for him, then for me it was a good deed.

But this did not help the thief at all, and he was ordered to be hanged.
