One day a goat, a ram, a cat, a rooster and a goose went to look at the light. By nightfall they reached the forest and decided to build themselves a hut. The goat felled trees, the ram cut off branches, the cat tore off moss with its claws to caulk cracks, the rooster broke reeds for the roof, and the goose laid the roof. They worked together, and soon the hut was ready. They had dinner and went to bed. The goat lay down near the table, the ram - by the stove, the cat - behind the stove, the goose settled down in the middle of the hut, and the rooster flew up to roost. They were tired during the day - as soon as they lay down, they soon began snoring.
And at midnight the wolf brought out her two wolf cubs to teach wolf craft. It happened that they were walking past a hut. The wolf saw the hut and was surprised.
- Miracles! - speaks. “I walked here in the morning and there was nothing, but now the hut seems to have grown out of the ground!”
“Let’s look into the hut,” the wolf cubs ask, “let’s see who lives there!”
“We can’t, we can’t,” the mother answers the wolf cubs, “the hour is uneven, we’ll get into trouble.”
The wolf went further into the forest and went to bed. While the mother was sleeping, one of the wolf cubs ran to the hut. He entered the hut, and then the goat treated him with its horns so much that everything began to shake. The rest of the travelers have woken up, and everyone is in a hurry to greet the uninvited guest as kindly as possible. The ram butted him in the side, the cat stroked his muzzle with its claws, the goose began to knock out dust from his fur coat and tried to knock out his teeth, and the rooster screamed, half asleep:
-Where is he, where is he? Give me my share too!
The wolf cub barely carried off his legs. The next morning the wolf asks her son:
- Why is your fur torn out? Why are you covered in bruises?
“While you were sleeping,” the wolf cub whined, “I went to the hut.” As soon as the door opened, someone suddenly saw me! - he pressed him to the wall with an iron pitchfork, he hit his ribs with a second club, a third spat in his eyes and slapped him in the face, a fourth beat him with two whips, and another yelled: “Where is he, where is he? Give me my share too!” It's good that he didn't get to me.
“This, son, is a lesson for you from now on,” the wolf said to her son. “I didn’t tell you to go there.” Always listen to what your mother says!
