Sufi parable from Attar The famous Sufi sheikh Ibrahim ibn Adham met an unfamiliar horseman on the way, who asked to show him the way. Ibrahim raised his hand to the sky.
The horseman demanded to stop stupid jokes and show him the way to the city. Then the sheikh pointed him to the cemetery.
The horseman became angry and hit the sheikh in the face with a whip. Ibrahim, without saying a word, calmly went to the source and washed the blood from his face.
Then the rider met a crowd of people, apparently looking for someone. In response to the question of whom they were looking for, they replied that they were looking for Ibrahim ibn Adham, who did not want to enter their sinful city, and therefore they went out to meet him. These people promised the horseman money if he showed them where the sheikh was. The rider asked about his external features. They described his clothing: a felt cloak (namad) without sleeves. The horseman cried bitterly and told about his meeting with the sheikh.
They eventually found Ibrahim fast asleep on the bank of a stream. The horseman asked him for forgiveness and received it on the condition that he never offend anyone in his life.
