This incident happened in Seydisfjord in the west many years ago. One old woman was going down the stairs, tripped and found nothing better than to break her neck. A man came up to her as she lay on her last legs and said:

- You will go to hell!

This was when the old woman could still speak, and she said that he would repent of his words. Immediately after this the old woman died, but immediately began to haunt the man so much that he lost peace. Often the old woman fought with him, a little more, and she would have killed him. There was no peace for this man even in his sleep, unless he slept next to an old man familiar with witchcraft, because then the ghost could come no closer than to the bed.

The man realized that this could no longer continue, and asked the old man for advice, and he advised him to cut off the old woman’s head and attach it to her thighs. The man considered this a difficult condition, but still decided to do it. By that time, the old woman had already been placed in a coffin, and the coffin was nailed down.

At night this man went to where the coffin stood and took with him a large fish knife. He opened the coffin, cut off the hag's head and placed it on her thighs. Then he closed the coffin again and was about to leave, but noticed that he had forgotten the knife in the coffin. He had to open the coffin again to take the knife, so he did.

Subsequently, he said that he was not at all afraid while he was cutting off the old woman’s head, but he completely lost heart when he needed to open the coffin again. However, everything went well, and after that the old woman did not pursue this man. This man is alive to this day.
