Lived without an owner
Long ago the earth. In the green steppes,
Sitting in the saddles like on thrones,
The sons of the steppes ruled.
Around them are herds of retinues
Wild horses circled:
Everyone in the pampa was free;
Neither rich nor poor -
Everyone was equal in the pump.
Didn't obey anyone
Shepherds - try it, touch it!
But the gaucho didn’t know the servants either:
Made his soul happy
Just a spear, balls and a horse...
But one day the evil government
She put her claws into the pump,
The sun was covered with mourning,
Sowing blood and fear everywhere;
On slave ships
Slaves were brought to us in chains...
But, casting off the burden of slavery,
He put the gaucho's leg in the stirrup,
And without complaints about fate
He rose to fight.
In the battle for freedom fell
There are many brave shepherds,
But freedom is power
I couldn't steal from them!
And all over the green pampa
They rose here and there
Points of shepherd's spears -
Monuments to the brave.
Keru-keru - birds of the pampa
Those places are a vale of sadness -
They flew around in a mournful flock
And soared again and again
Above the ground that has absorbed the blood.
And, drawn by a wonderful force,
They sat down in a sad scattering,
Each one at the tip
In the battle of the fallen spear
Over an untimely grave...
And since then, frozen in a mirage,
Keru-keru not for an hour
The mournful never close their eyes
At the grave as an eternal guardian;
And when in the silent night
Suddenly a terrible scream will be heard,
Keru-keru mournful cry, -
Then he gets up for a bloody battle
The spirit that rested here in glory -
The spirit of the gaucho is in this moment.
Flashes in the lowlands like a furnace
Keru-keru like a timid shadow -
The permanent guardian of these places,
Radiating the light of hope
To them, who have closed their eyelids forever,
Sleeping in eternal sleep all around.
