An idiot can be called an ordinary person who is inclined to misinterpret what happens to him, what he himself does and what is done by others. Moreover, he gives such plausible explanations for this for himself and his peers that the world in which he lives seems logically complete and true.
Such an idiot was once given a jug and sent for wine to a wise man. On the way, due to his carelessness, he tripped over a stone, fell and broke the jug.
Coming to the sage, he showed him the handle of the jug and said:
“So-and-so sent you this jug, but an evil and terrible stone stole it from me on the way.”
These words made the wise man laugh very much, but, still wanting to check the consistency of his thinking, he asked:
- If the jug was stolen, why did you bring the handle from it?
“I’m not as stupid as people think,” answered the idiot, “I brought you a pen to prove my words.”
