I heard about a professor of philosophy at the University of Paris. One day he declared:
- I am the greatest man in the world!
The students laughed: he was a poor professor. But since he said it, he must have meant something. Therefore he was asked:
- You are a logician, please prove it.
He brought a world map to class and asked the students:
—Which country is the greatest in the world? Can you tell, can you show it?
They were all French, so the greatest country was France. Then he said:
“So, the rest of the world doesn’t interest us.” If I can prove that I am the greatest man in France, then that will be enough.
They said:
- It seems logical.
But now they began to feel a little uneasy. He said:
—Which city is the greatest in France?
They were all Parisians, and, of course, that city turned out to be Paris. They became even more worried. And then he asked:
—What place in Paris is the greatest and most sacred?
Of course, it was their university.
— What is the most important department at the university?
Of course, it was the Faculty of Philosophy. And he finished:
— And I am the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.
