The Girl and the Tramp

Do you love yourself? You didn't even ask this question. People hate themselves, people condemn themselves and continue to condemn; they continue to consider themselves rotten. How can another love you, such a rotten person? No, no one can really love you. The other one is probably fooling you, deceiving you; there is probably some other reason. She probably wants something else; He probably wants something else.

I heard:

A dirty, smelly, shabby-looking tramp sat on a park bench next to a sweet young girl. The girl looked at him and turned away in disgust. Soon enough, she heard a noise and turned her head to see what was happening. To her horror, she saw that he took a sandwich out of a paper bag and took a large bite. The meat in it was rotten, the salad turned black, the bread was moldy.

Feeling her gaze on him, the tramp turned to her and said:

- Excuse me, miss, would you like a piece of my sandwich? I think making love is out of the question.

This is exactly what is happening. You know about yourself - love seems to be out of the question. You know your rottenness, your unworthiness - love, it seems, is out of the question. And when some woman comes and says that she worships you, you cannot trust her. When you come to a woman and tell her that you idolize her, but she hates herself, how can she trust you? It is self-hatred that creates this anxiety.
