One peasant had a calf. He loved his calf very much and every morning he took it out to the meadow where lush green grass grew.
But then autumn came, the grass was mowed, and the calf began to lose weight by leaps and bounds. He was used to green grass, but yellow straw was not to his taste at all.
The peasant is sad and doesn’t know what to do. One wise man found out about this, came to the peasant and told him this:
“I heard about your grief and I want to help you.” Give me a hundred rupees and I will make your calf eat straw.
The peasant agreed, gave the sage a hundred rupees and began to wonder what the sage would do?
And the sage did this: he went to the market, bought green glasses and returned to the peasant.
- Well, where is your stubborn calf, bring him here! The peasant brought a calf.
- Now bring the straw!
The peasant brought straw and placed it in front of the calf.
- Doesn’t he eat? - asked the sage.
“He doesn’t eat,” the peasant sighed bitterly.
The sage grinned, took green glasses from his pocket and put them on the calf’s eyes. The yellow straw turned into green grass in the calf's eyes. He was delighted and began to chew the straw.
