Tata and Nena

During the era of the fourth sun, the Sun of Water, people became evil and stopped worshiping the gods. The gods became angry, and Tlaloc, the god of rain, announced that he intended to destroy the world with a flood.

But Tlaloc liked one pious married couple, Tata and Nena, and God warned them about the flood. He ordered them to hollow out a large log from the inside, take with them two ears of wheat - one for each - and eat nothing else except this wheat.

Tata and Nena entered the hollow log, taking with them two ears of wheat. It started to rain. When the waters finally subsided and Tata and Nena found themselves on dry land, they were so happy that they caught a fish and ate it, forgetting about Tlaloc's command. Only after they were satisfied did the husband and wife remember the deity’s order.

Tlaloc appeared before them and said, “So this is how you repay me for saving me?” And he turned them into dogs.

The gods destroyed the world because even the most righteous people stopped obeying them. Thus began the era of the Fifth Sun, in which we live to this day.
