One woman, having given her daughter away in marriage, advised her when she was getting ready to go to her husband:
- In your husband’s house, obey everyone and carry out all the instructions.
One morning, the mother-in-law sent her daughter-in-law to fetch water. She asked:
- How to draw water?
Then the other daughter-in-law jokingly replied:
- Draw with a sieve. The young daughter-in-law took a sieve with her and tried to scoop up water with it. Seeing this, a man passing by asked:
- What happened to you? To this the poor fellow replied:
“I was told to draw water with a sieve and bring it, and my mother ordered me to obey everyone in my husband’s house.”
This man said mockingly:
“This is how those who want to obey everyone have to live—they even have to draw water with a sieve!”
