He lived in the same village of Koshkli with his wife Mitika and son Imimkut. So, they say, it was. One day, girls from neighboring yarangs found a seal washed up by the sea on the seashore. They decided to hide the seal so that the lazy and stupid Koshkli would not see and take it. But before the girls had time to drag the seal from the shore, Koshkli approached them and asked; -What is this?
“This is a tree,” the girls said. Koshkli asked again:
- Why is this tree with flippers?
- These are not flippers, but tree knots.
“Yeah, you’re deceiving me,” Koshkli shouted and took the seal away from the girls.
Arriving home, Koshkli said to Mitika:
- Mitika, here, freshen up the seal, I got it now. Mitika was delighted, placed the seal on a kayutak (wooden dish) and skinned it. Then they cooked fresh meat and ate heartily. Mitika took the rest of the meat to the stump and hid it in the pantry behind the curtain. After eating, everyone fell fast asleep.
While Koshkli, Mitika and their son Imimkut were sleeping, the girls slowly entered the pantry and ate all the boiled meat, and instead of meat they put stones and sand. Having done all this, the girls ran away. When Koshkli, his wife and son woke up, they saw that instead of meat there were stones and sand. Koshkli pulled on his seal pants, grabbed his stick and ran to catch up with the girls. He caught up with the girls and swung a stick at them. The girls shouted:
- Oh, don’t hit us, we’ll scratch your head!
Koshkli agreed. The girls scratched Koshkly’s head so well that he didn’t notice how he fell asleep. Then the girls blindfolded Koshkli with red skin and ran away laughing. Koshkli woke up, opened his eyes and saw that everything around him had turned red, as if from fire. He jumped to his feet, ran and shouted:
- Mitika, Mitika, our house is burning!
Mitika ran up to Koshkli and tore the red bandage from his eyes. Again the girls laughed at him. Koshkli grabbed his stick and ran after the girls. He caught up and swung his stick. The girls shouted:
- Oh, don’t hit us, we’ll scratch your head! Koshkli agreed. The girls again scratched Koshkly’s head so well that he didn’t notice how he fell asleep. Then the girls drew stripes on Koshkli’s nose and chin, like women’s, and ran away again, laughing.
Koshkli woke up and ran to the river to drink water. He leaned down from a rock towards the water, and a girl with a painted face looked at him from the water. Oh, what a beautiful face! – thought Koshkli and shouted:
- I’ll take you, I’ll take you! The cat laughed with joy, and the girl in the water also laughed. Koshkli said:
- She agreed, she agreed! He reached out with his hands for the girl, and fell into the water. So he drowned due to his stupidity. All.
