The caretaker of the Calquetoch cave, Rogério Vergara, spoke about a long-standing meeting between Tsukan and two inspectors of the Agrarian Bank. This happened twenty years ago. Two bank employees went to check the bank branch located in San Nabor, near Calquetoja. A snake crawled towards their car so huge that it blocked the entire road with its body. The deathly frightened driver flatly refused to drive up to the snake, fearing that it would immediately devour him.
The inspectors looked at the snake and were amazed; neither her head nor her tail were visible - they were lost somewhere in the forest. They had to return to Calketoh without completing their official assignment. True, some time later they tried to persuade one of the local residents to go to that place to make sure that they had not imagined all this. But that was not the case: there were no brave souls. The old people said that this was none other than Tsukan himself - the Feathered Serpent. You cannot treat him disrespectfully, much less try to kill him: you can pay for this with your life, since Tsukan is immortal.
If you believe the legend, then a long time ago, when the Spaniards first arrived here, there was a cave in the middle of the square. It contained the “eye of water”, or an underground source - a cenote. Local residents went there to get water, but they did it at a strictly defined time, since everyone was well aware that at noon, for example, the Feathered Serpent who lived in the cave begins to look for someone to eat. But one careless girl still went for water at an inopportune hour - and was immediately swallowed by Tsukan. After this disaster, the local Indians cut down several large sapote trees, which blocked the entrance to the cave.
There is also talk that Tsukan was met in Kiki’s cenote well, where he also often lies in wait for his prey. But not everyone has the opportunity to see the Feathered Serpent: for this you have to be lucky. True, it is still unknown whether such a meeting was fortunate or unfortunate.
One of the last cases occurred in 1940 or 1943 with Don Estanislao Ordóñez while hunting. Two lights shone in the darkness. It seemed to Don Estanislao that these were the eyes of some animal. But as he came closer, he realized that it was the head of a snake. Moreover, she was adorned with a luxurious mane - just like a horse’s! Only now it dawned on Don Estanislao that he had met Tsukan himself, and under no circumstances should he be touched, otherwise trouble would inevitably result. After all, it’s not the Feathered Serpent who will die anyway, but the one who shoots.

Every day he went to the cave and collected two or three bags. And then one day Tsukan appeared to him and frightened the poor man so much that he even lost his legs, and it took him great difficulty to get out of the cave. And according to him, that Snake had a head the size of a horse, and long hair stuck out from above. It was definitely a huge Tsukan. As soon as the poor fellow got out, his strength returned and he ran as fast as he could. After this incident, the seller of bat excrement left his occupation forever.”
