When my grandfather was alive, my great-grandfather was also alive. My great-grandfather said:
– There lived three Sovalov men, all three of them were shamans. At that time, the Sovalov-Nabago relatives lived. At the same time, people from the Lodosed clan lived here, as well as Yuracs from the coastal clan. The Yuras wanted to go to war against my relatives.
We chose the oldest of the Sovalovs. This elder of ours says:
- Well, what are we going to do? Let's decide. We will have to fight anyway.
“Then the three Sovalov shamans began to say:
“We won’t let people be killed.” As long as you are alive, this will not happen. What's the use of this?
They gathered all the people - the Sovalovs, Lodosed, Nabago. There was also another clan here - Navagoy-inindea. People from this family were distinguished by their daring. One guy came from this family.
This young, unmarried guy says to our elder host:
– Who will go to the reconnaissance of the Yuraks to look?
The Yuraks boasted that they would come when the sun went high into the sky.
Here the elder says:
- The time has already come. The sun rose above the forest. Probably the Yuraks will come soon.
“When people from different clans gathered, their tents were surrounded by fences.
That young guy says:
- Well, okay, I'll go on reconnaissance. What kind of bulls will they harness to my sledge? Your bulls are bad, but I have an important woman, if only she could use a mate.
In those days, trochees were short, only four meters long. And the sledges are small, only on four spears. They began to ask the people who else had such a nimble, fleet-footed important woman to harness to the other. People say:
“Such an important woman won’t go with another deer.” Then a guy from a different family said:
– I have a horse from the important woman, but I think it can be harnessed with his mother. Trouble is dear, smart! Old people say:
- It’s okay, let the lonchak be in pairs.
And now, beyond the Yenisei, opposite Dudinka, there is the treeless Bukhuch ridge. The plagues of those people were on the other side of the Yenisei where Dudinka stands.
That young man’s sleds cut the Yenisei towards the Bukhuch ridge. So the man rode off on a sled drawn by an important woman with a boat.
I reached the Buhucha ridge. From the ridge I passed one more stop. Stopped. I lit a cigarette. He doesn't say anything. Silent.
Suddenly, from his high place, he sees that only sledges have appeared in front of him. Then so many people passed ahead that it became dark. These were the Yuraks. The day was windless, and the guy heard the Yuracs say:
- Nada! Nada!
The leader of the Yuraks said:
- Yes! Samatu has arrived. Apparently he has come a long time ago and is waiting for us. It is necessary for two people on sleds to go around the ridge and surround the newcomer. If we manage to surround him in time, he will not be able to carry away the words about our arrival.
And this guy hears everything. He put the trochee on the sledge. He took the bow in his hands. Having prepared for battle, he lit another cigarette. The Yuracs surround him on both sides, and he smokes for himself. When they seemed very close, he hid the phone and let his important one in. She rushes so fast that her arrows cannot catch up with her. The Yuraks are lagging behind. He twisted the reins around his hand. The important woman rushes so that the sled just bounces and waddles from side to side.
The Yuraks became thoughtful and said:
“If he’s so daring, then he probably has even more daring people at home.”
Here their leader says:
– Even if it is even further away, we still have to try.
The guy rushed into his tent and told about the Yuraks. They prepared all their bows and went outside the fence. But the guy paved the way for the Yuraks with his sledges, and they came in his footsteps. They tied their sledges far away; removed the sokui. We came to the Samat guy. Those three Sovalovs were here then.
The battle has begun. They shot from bows. In the shootout, two or three Yuracs were killed, but there were no losses themselves.
The guy who went on reconnaissance guarded the plague. The women had gone somewhere; they were not in the tents. One boy went further than the fence - apparently he was following his father. That guy saw him and rushed after the boy to bring him to the tent. When he was walking behind the child, a yuraska arrow pierced his shoulder blade, and the guy fell. If the arrow had flown from the front, it would never have hit the guy. He was so nimble. They shot an arrow from the back, because there are no eyes behind! Another person out of the three Sovalovs was hit in the leg by a Yuraks’ arrow.
Finally there was a truce. The Yuras visited the Enets.
The man who was shot in the leg survived, but the guy who saved the child died.
So the Yuracs left the Enets. The remaining two healthy Sovalovs began to perform rituals, saying:
- Let's not abandon the third one. Catch a big bull deer and kill it.
They killed the bull, took a bone from his thigh, cleaned it and inserted it into the wounded man. The bone was shorter, and the man began to limp.
On New Year's Day, the lame Sovalov went to visit the Yuraks, taking with him several of his people. Here one yurak says:
- After all, I shot at this man, and he is alive. Is he a spirit? Catch him deer as a gift. We won't fight anymore. We made peace.
He gave him two bulls and put a carcass of meat in his sledge. That's all about those Sovalovs.
