The wind was once a man. He was the son of the wind. Once he was playing with a boy named Gna-Ka-Ti, they were rolling a ball of quarri on the ground.
The wind exclaimed:
- Oh Gna-Ka-Ti, look!
And Gna-Ka-Ti rolled the ball towards him and shouted back to him:
- Buddy! Look!
Gna-Ka-Ti did not know his name. That's why Gna-Ka-Ti called him buddy.
The wind always called him by name, he said:
- Oh Gna-Ka-Ti! Look!
And then Gna-Ka-Ti went to his mother to find out from Her the name of his playmate.
He said:
Oh mother, tell me the name of that friend of mine over there. He always calls me by name, but I don't know his name. I also want to call him by name when I swing the ball towards him.
And the mother said:
“I don’t want to tell you his name right now.” Wait, let father first strengthen our hut so that we can hide there. Then only you will learn from me the name of your friend. But remember: as soon as the wind blows, immediately run home; you must quickly get to the hut so that you are not blown away by the wind.
The boy left and they began to play again. And then he came to his mother again to ask her for the name of his comrade.
And then his mother called the name, repeating it several times:
- This is Tserriten-Gtsuang-Gtsuang, this is Ghau-Ghaubu. Ti! This is Tserriten-Gtsuang-Gtsuang, this is Ghau-Ghaubu-Ti! This is Tserriten-Gtsuang-Gtsuang!
Gna-Ka-Ti again went to chase the ball, and they began to play, but he did not call his friend by name, he remembered how his mother warned him:
“You must not yet say the name of your comrade, even if he calls you by name. And as soon as you say his name, immediately run home, otherwise you will be carried away by the wind!”
And they kicked the ball around, and his friend called him by name. Finally Gna-Ka-Ti saw that his father had finished the work and securely strengthened the hut, and Gna-Ka-Ti realized that he could now pronounce the name of his comrade.
Gna-Ka-Ti rolled the ball towards his comrade and shouted:
- Look, oh Tserriten-Gtsuang-Gtsuang! Look, O Ghau-Ghaubu-Ti! Look!
And he immediately started running, he rushed home as fast as he could, and his comrade suddenly bent over and fell into a hollow. He lay there, kicking furiously. And suddenly a wind blew - so strong that it blew away the mats from which the huts were made, and swept away the barriers of bushes that covered the huts, and people could not see anything because of the dust.
Then the mother of the wind left the house - their hut remained intact, since they themselves were the winds. She walked up to her son, grabbed him and pulled him to his feet.
He did not want to stand and tried to lie down again. But his mother kept him on his feet. And then the wind died down, and the dust also settled down. Therefore we say:
— When the wind lies, it blows very strongly. When he stands straight, he calms down. The noise the wind makes is from him kicking, and that is the noise from his knees.
Now the son of the wind has turned into a bird, he no longer walks like a man, but flies. He lives in a cave, in a mountain, comes out and flies around, and then comes back. He sleeps in a cave, and early in the morning he wakes up and flies off again in search of food, then returns to the cave and sleeps there.
