In a beautiful and quiet valley in the lower reaches of the Sadan River, there lived a peasant with his wife and adult daughter named Dorylana. He was tough to kill and often beat his daughter. And every time he got angry and hit her, he said:
“If you behave like this, Dorilana, Pakpak Selokha will never marry you.”
And in the upper reaches of the same river, almost at its very sources, lived another peasant. He had an only son, Pakpak Seloka. This peasant also often scolded his son and always said, treating him with mallets:
“If you are always so disobedient, Dorylana will not marry you.”
That’s how it was with them - whenever they scolded their children, they always repeated the same thing.
In the end, Dorilana wanted to know why her father kept mentioning Pakpak Seloku. So she decided to find out where Pakpak Seloka lives, whether he is good-looking - is it not in vain that his father and mother praise him.
One day she changed into men's clothes and went up the Sadan River. Whatever village she goes to, she always asks where Pakpak Seloka lives. Everyone pointed her upstream. Finally she reached the village where Pakpak Seloka lived and went straight to his house.
She saw that Pakpak Seloka was indeed red-haired, smart and strong. She liked the guy, and she began to think about how to get him as her husband.
Meanwhile, Pakpak Seloka’s parents were planning to build a new house. Dorilana introduced herself as a carpenter and said that she knew how to build houses. The parents heard about this, were delighted and asked her to take over all the work. Dorylana went on. Ayudi is told that she never had to swing an ax - she only said what she needed, and now everything was done by itself. As soon as she said: “Pillars, pillars, stand up,” the pillars immediately stood in a row.
Soon the house was ready with all the utensils and services. Then Dorilana asked God to move this house from the forest to the dilapidated house of Pakpak Seloka. Well, his old people were surprised when they saw such a miracle!
When they celebrated the construction of the house and sacrificed many buffaloes and pigs to the gods, it was time to pay the carpenter. At first, the parents thought of paying for the work with rice, but Dorilana refused. She said:
– We have a lot of rice in our fields.
Dorylana also didn’t want to hire buffalos:
“We have a barn full of buffaloes.” She didn't need silver either:
“There’s already a lot of it in our house.” Finally, she was asked:
– Do you want us to pay you in gold? But Dorilana answered:
“I have as much gold as you want at home, it’s of no use to me.”
The parents gave up. How to pay?
Meanwhile, Dorilana went up into the house for a minute and came out in a woman’s dress. She was very good in it - nice to see. It was then that she said to the old men:
- My name is Dorilana. If you want to reward me, give me Pakpak Seloku as my husband, I’ve heard about him for a long time, and now I’ve fallen in love with him.
Her parents did not interfere - after all, they themselves wanted her to become their daughter-in-law.
So Dorylana and Pakpak Seloka got married and lived happily ever after. They lived either with Dorilana's parents in the lower reaches of the Sadan River, or in the upper reaches, in a new house that Dorilana built.
