The doctor examined him carefully, felt his pulse and said, shaking his head sadly:
“You’re wasting money on treatment in vain, my friend!” You only have forty days left to live.
The fat man began to cry, went to his home, lay down on the bed and did not talk to anyone. Then he stood on the mat and began to perform prayer after prayer, begging Almighty Allah to forgive all his sins. He even stopped eating and drinking, all he could think about was the day when he would appear before the Almighty. And this day, apparently, was approaching, because he was losing weight and turning pale by leaps and bounds. “The doctor told me the truth!” - thought the poor man.
And then came the fortieth day of his illness. The patient washed himself in the morning and began to wait for death to approach. An hour passes, then another, then a third, but still death does not come.
Then the patient jumped out of bed and ran to the doctor.
“You told me that I would die in forty days!” And I'm alive! Why did you deceive me so cruelly?
The doctor smiled and asked:
– If my memory serves me correctly, did you come to me with complaints of obesity?
- Yes!
- So look at yourself! You are thin and slender, like a reed! What else do you need?
And then the “patient” understood the doctor’s wise trick.
