One day, two neighbors, Kubiš and Paštjalka from Čermna, decided to scare the shoemaker Gitsek. But how to do this? After all, Gitsek is not afraid of anything.
“Tell you what,” says Pastyalka, “you climb into the coffin and pretend to be dead.” Since he is so brave, let's see if he agrees to guard the dead man at night.
Kubis immediately climbed into the coffin, and Paštialka ran to Gitsek:
— Kubis died, lies in a coffin; go and sit near him at night so that the evil one does not attack him. There will be plenty of food and drink.
Well, if so, the shoemaker agreed. He had a lot of work, he took everything he needed with him: leather, hammers, a belt - in general, everything he needed. They brought him all sorts of things to eat, and they did not remain in debt. And hot coffee so you don't fall asleep. Well, will Gitsek fall asleep? Where there! He started beating on the stocks, singing and singing, as if at a wedding. Exactly at midnight - Gitsek was just drawing out high notes, as if they were slaughtering a pig - the dead man sits up in the coffin and says:
- Where the deceased is, they don’t sing! Gitsek turned around:
- And whoever died, lie down quietly!
Yes, how he will hit him with a hammer! Kubis jumped out and ran.
“I won’t scare anyone for the life of me!” - shouts.
He had a headache for two weeks. The large nodule was swollen. I kept my hand in this place the whole time.
