“Tell me, you’re cooking hominy, but what are we going to eat it with?” Khuadzha Shardyn once asked his wife.

“I told you that we have nothing else,” she answered, stirring the hominy with a spatula.

“Then try to cook it until I return,” said Shardyn, took a stick and left the house.

He went to his neighbor, who was away at the time. Only the hostess remained at home.

“I know that your husband has not returned yet, but that’s okay, I just wanted to talk to you,” said Shardyn. “Did you hear that I started buying chickens?” I made a deal with one merchant, and you have a lot of chickens, but I don’t need chickens, but capons. Sell your capons, I will give you a good price.

“Well, I’ll give you the capons, since you buy them all together,” said the hostess, went to the chicken coop, caught eight capons, tied them together and gave them to Shardyn.

- So these are my capons? - Shardyn asked with a businesslike look.

- Yes, yours.

“That’s it, my dear, I didn’t take any money with me now.” Therefore, I will leave you four capons as a deposit. If I don’t send the money, it will be yours,” Shardyn concluded, took the other four capons and left.

The next day my husband returned.

“Yesterday I made a good deal,” the wife began to boast. “Shardyn visited us and bought eight capons.” But since he did not take the money, he left four capons as collateral, and if he does not send the debt, then the capons left as collateral will be mine.

“Fool, you turned out to be stupider than a capon,” her husband interrupted angrily, “Don’t you understand that you will not receive any money, just as you will never see the capons given to Shardyn?..
