Sufi parable from Ghazali Al-Shafi, may God have mercy on him, said: “I still love Abi Sulaiman because of one thing I heard about him. One day, while riding on a donkey and spurring it, a button came off. He passed by a tailor and wanted to dismount so that he could sew on a button for him, but the tailor said:
- For the sake of Allah, don’t get down.
The tailor approached him and sewed on a button. Then he took out a wallet containing ten dinars, gave it to the tailor and apologized for the fact that there was little money in it.”
And al-Shafi recited to himself:
My heart grieves for money, so that I could give to the poor. I ask those to forgive me, to whom I have nothing to bestow.
