It so happened that one bird, unlike the others, did not have a single beautiful feather. She suffered very much and, when she looked at her reflection in the surface of the cenote well, she realized that she did not have the beauty of a real peahen, the red feathers of a cardinal, the yellow feathers of a shui bird, and in general she was the ugliest bird in the world.
The other birds saw her suffering and, taking pity on her, flew to God to ask his permission to give the poor thing one feather from each of them. Then she too will become beautiful. God had mercy on the unfortunate woman.
Having received a new outfit of feathers of seven colors and having admired its reflection in the cenote, the bird considered that it was now the most beautiful, and was very happy about it. Now she admired herself all day long, became incredibly proud and became very ungrateful.
And then one day God ordered the seven-flowered bird to warn the other birds about the great danger that threatened them - a lot of hunters were heading into the forest where they lived. And the frivolous seven-flowered girl, immediately forgetting about the assignment, again began to admire her reflection. But fortunately, the little hummingbird also heard what God was saying and quickly flew to tell the others. Therefore, people did not manage to kill a single bird that time.
God was very angry with the seven-flowered bird, and she felt very ashamed. After all, despite the fact that the other birds helped her become beautiful, she did nothing to warn them of the danger. And if not for the little hummingbird, the hunters could have killed all the birds.
Despite the repentance of the seven-flowered bird, God still decided to punish her for not warning the other birds about the danger. And from that very day, he once and for all forbade her to admire her reflection in the cenote well. In addition, from then on, people would catch her in order to put her in a cage.
So, when you hear the singing of the seven-flowered bird locked in a cage in the house or in the yard, know that it is she who is paying for being ungrateful.
