One day Buddha was in Kozambi in the forest. And, taking some leaves of the sinsan tree, he asked his disciples:
- Where do you think there are more leaves - in my hand or in the forest?
The students replied:
“Of course, Teacher, there are incomparably more leaves in the forest than in your hand.”
“In the same way, students, what I have learned and what I have not told you is incomparably greater.” Why didn’t I tell you? But because it would not bring you any benefit.
It would not contribute to the holiness of life, the destruction of all lust and the abolition of everything corruptible, it would not lead to peace, to knowledge and enlightenment! What then, disciples, have I told you? I have made known to you suffering, the origin of suffering, the end of suffering, and the way to end suffering.
