Narada wanted to teach Satyabhama a lesson, saying that he knew how to attract Krishna to her side. This is a ritual in which she gives her husband to someone as a gift and then buys him back with money equal to the weight of the Lord. Narada said that if she goes through this ritual, Krishna will belong to her alone.
Satyabhama was seduced by this plan. Following the ritual, she gave Krishna as a gift to Narada in order to then receive Him back. She made Krishna sit on one pan of the scales, and put all her jewelry on the other, but they did not pull Krishna over! Narada seized on this situation and told Satyabhama that since she could not give gold equal to the weight of Krishna, he would take Krishna away and from that day He would no longer belong to her, but would belong to him. Satyabhama then thought of Rukmini (Krishna's second wife) and went to look for her.
She found her performing tulasi puja (a ritual of worship with holy basil leaves). Rukmini was holding some tulsi leaves in her hand. She was amazed that Satyabhama was trying to equate the weight of God Himself with gold. She knew that this was impossible and said that gold will never outweigh God and only the name of God can be equal to God. Narada did not agree with this, saying that since Krishna has a visible form, He can be compared in weight to something visible. Rukmini immediately assessed the situation, remembering that if you give God a fruit, a flower or even a spoonful of water with sincere faith, He will certainly respond. And if there was any truth in this, the Lord would respond to what she was about to do. Filled with faith, she uttered the name of Krishna and placed a tulsi leaf on the other pan of the scale.
