Krishna once pretended to have a headache—a severe, unbearable headache! He played this role extremely believably. He tied a warm scarf around his head and tossed restlessly on the bed. His eyes were red and He looked quite sick. The face was swollen and pale. Rukmini, Satyabhama and other queens ran around with many medicines and potions, but nothing helped. Then they turned to Narada for advice. He entered the patient's room to find out from Krishna Himself what remedy could help Him.
Krishna ordered him to bring... dust from the feet of a true bhakta (devoted worshiper of God). At that very moment, Narada appeared before the famous devotees of the Lord, but they considered themselves unworthy to give the dust from their feet to Krishna as medicine.
“We are too worthless,” they said.
Disappointed, Narada returned to the sick bed, and Krishna asked him:
—Have you been to Vrindavan, where the gopis (shepherdesses) live?
The queens laughed at this question, and Narada, becoming despondent, exclaimed:
—What do the gopis know about bhakti (devotion)?
And yet he hurried to Vrindavan.
When the cowherd boys heard that Krishna was sick and that the dust from their feet could cure Him, they, without a moment’s hesitation, shook off the dust from their feet and poured it into Narada’s hand. As soon as Narada appeared in Dwarka, Krishna's headache disappeared.
