The great king called his wise men to him. He ordered them:
- Come up with a saying for me that will pacify me. When I am sad, it will bring me joy, and in moments of happiness it will remind me of sadness. It shouldn't be too long because I want to always have it with me.
The wise men consulted about the royal decree and indulged in deep reflection. Finally, they returned to the king and presented him with a small box. It contained a ring on which were inscribed the following words: “This too shall pass.”
