One Sabbath day, a man, immersed in the worship of God, asked his son to go and buy some bananas for one rupee. The son was a kind boy. He bought bananas, but on his way home he noticed a woman with a child by the road; both could barely stand on their feet from hunger. When the hungry boy saw the bananas, he rushed to them, and the hungry mother, seeing this, rushed after her son and grabbed him, but both of them immediately fainted from hunger.
The young man, seeing their suffering, decided that it was much better to feed these starving people than to carry bananas home. He gave the bananas to the mother and child, and then brought them water. The two, having satisfied their hunger and thirst, felt relieved and, expressing their gratitude, wept with joy.
The young man returned home empty-handed, but when asked by his father if he had brought bananas, he answered in the affirmative, saying that the bananas he brought were sacred: they could not rot and they could not be seen. The son explained to his father that he had fed these bananas to two hungry creatures and the only thing he brought home were the sacred fruits of his action.
